Design And Build

The Sony HT-A7000 is a high-quality soundbar with a sleek, modern style that will look great with any home theatre system. The soundbar’s length of 47 inches makes it superior to its rivals and ideal for use with larger TVs. The soundbar’s sleek black colour and matte texture give it a contemporary air.

The soundbar’s numerous high-quality speakers and tweeters are hidden behind a durable and seamless grill on the front, and the volume, input selection, and power buttons are located on a sleek touch-sensitive panel on the soundbar’s top. To show the soundbar’s status, the touch panel lights up with a warm white glow, which is both functional and aesthetically pleasing. An HDMI eARC, HDMI in, optical input, 3.5mm AUX in, and a USB connection can be found on the back of the soundbar.

The Sony HT-A7000 can rest easily on a tabletop, but there’s also a wall attach bracket included for those who prefer that setup. The soundbar is built to last and has the capability to produce high-quality music because of its sturdy construction. The soundbar’s distinctive modular form contributes to its high build quality. Two wireless rear speakers are included with the HT-A7000 and can be connected to or detached from the soundbar as needed. The soundbar’s adaptability is boosted by its modular construction, which also facilitates quick installation and tweaking to suit your preferences.

From the fabric that covers the upward drivers and the perforated metal front grille to the polished glass top surface and the greasy fingerprints that instantly appear on it after reaching for the capacitive function buttons, the HT-A7000 is composed of a blend of materials, textures, and shades of black, which Sony describes as a “Omnidirectional Block” concept shared by the rest of the range. The construction is solid and reliable, though its design has a more jumbled aesthetic than some of its rivals.

The included remote, in contrast to the primary soundbar, is a throwback to the 1990s. You can use this to rapidly access (almost) all of the A7000’s features, and check settings like the audio format you’re listening to, with a scrolling text response on the soundbar’s front face. Although this is a pleasant addition, the completely integrated on-screen set-up and options menu you receive with a Bravia TV is even better (Z9J, A90J, A80J, X95J, X90J, X85J or X80J series). Even though other AV manufacturers have started incorporating symbiotic technology into their soundbars and Televisions, the A7000’s implementation is one of the most practical we’ve seen.

The Sony HT-A7000 is a premium and cutting-edge soundbar that appears and sounds fantastic thanks to its excellent design and construction. Its sleek appearance will go with any interior design, and its high-quality sound will satisfy movie buffs, music lovers, and gamers equally.

Features

The A7000 is easy to set up and calibrate for a specific area, and it works with a wide variety of streaming services, including Spotify Connect, Apple AirPlay 2, Google Chromecast, and a whole house system that includes Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Home. It’s wonderful that the A7000 can be set up and used with no help from your phone, but if you want, you can use the Sony Music Center app for Android or iOS to do the same. The only real complaint we have is that the soundbar’s remote lacks any means of adjusting the equalisation ranges. In reality, the app’s sound settings only allow you to adjust the bass volume to one of three discrete levels.

The A7000’s streaming prowess is matched only by its extensive list of physical networking options. Two HDMI 2.1 pass-through sockets support 8K@60Hz, 4K@120Hz, and Dolby Vision HDR, which is great news for gamers and people whose Televisions only have a single spare HDMI port. That may sound like the full-fat HDMI 2.1, but owners of the Xbox Series X (and, one day, the PS5) should know that the A7000 does not currently support VRR or ALLM.

Connecting a compatible Bravia TV to the soundbar with the included connection transforms the TV into the centre channel of the system. Other inputs include eARC/HDMI out, analogue and optical audio inputs, USB type-A, power, and an analogue output for Sony’s Acoustic Center Sync. Keep in mind, if you believe you might need to access the back compartment that is designed to hold all the ports, that it is somewhat small due to the abundance of connections there.

When it comes to audio, the A7000 once again outdoes itself by supporting Dolby Atmos (in both Digital+ and TrueHD codecs), DTS:X, LPCM, wireless hi-res audio, and Sony’s own 360 Reality Audio. The latter is a spatial technology built on objects that completely envelops the user in sound; it is compatible with services like Tidal, Amazon Music HD, Nugs, and Deezer.

Sound

The Sony HT-A7000 has stunningly high-quality music. The soundbar’s 7.1.2 channels and 1280W of power allow it to fill the space with a rich, immersive soundstage. It’s optimised to work with a wide range of surround sound formats, including Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, to deliver a fully submerging 3D audio experience that puts you in the centre of the action.

The HT-A7000 features a plethora of cutting-edge audio technologies, including S-Force PRO Front Surround, which generates a surround sound impact directly from the soundbar, eliminating the need for additional rear speakers. The speaker is compatible with Sony’s 360 Reality Audio, which creates a simulated live concert experience so realistic that you feel like you’re right there in the room with the band. The HT-strong A7000’s and accurate bass contributes to the speaker’s already high sound quality. The wireless subwoofer that comes with the soundbar adds a new level of depth and impact to your beloved media.

The HT-ability A7000’s to tailor the audio experience to the listener’s space and personal tastes is a notable feature. Sony’s proprietary Sound Field Optimization technology analyses the room’s dimensions, materials, and layout to fine-tune the audio output. The Sony Music Center app allows for additional customization of the soundbar’s multiple sound settings, which include cinema, music, and gaming.

In conclusion, the sound quality of the Sony HT-A7000 soundbar is simply exceptional, with powerful and dynamic sound that provides an immersive and personalised listening experience. It’s a great choice for movie buffs, music aficionados, and gamers who want a high-quality audio experience without leaving the comfort of their own homes because of its cutting-edge sound technologies, powerful bass, and adaptable sound modes.

Verdict

The A7000 is more impressive than most multi-box systems due to its ability to amaze with both its powerful, cinematic audio and its immersive, detailed soundfield.

The A7000 does not feel like it needs any additional support, but we would add the available surrounds and sub if we could afford to do so or if we had more room in our apartment. It’s a highly capable, future-proof machine that makes everything we watch better and establishes a new standard for affordable Dolby Atmos soundbars.

Pros

  • In favour, it has a solid bass response.
  • Superior Atmos sound Packed with features

Cons

  • At the time of debut, there was neither VRR nor ALLM.
  • I think it would be great if there were equalisation settings.
  • Modifications to the style that are a little unclear
